A new human H7N9 avian flu case has been reported in east China's Jiangxi Province, local authorities said on Saturday.
The patient is a 53-year-old man from Jingdezhen City of Jiangxi. He was confirmed as infected with the virus on Friday, according to the provincial health and family planning commission.
The man is being treated in a hospital in Nanchang, Jiangxi's capital city, and is in a critical condition.
H7N9, a bird flu strain most likely to strike in winter and spring, was first reported to have infected humans in China in March 2013.
Human H7N9 cases have been reported in China's Anhui, Fujian, Guangdong provinces and Shanghai, Hong Kong and Macao this month.
