China said on Monday it was looking forward to sound and stable development of relations with Vietnam.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong will visit China from Jan. 12 to 15, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
"China attaches high importance to the visit, which is the first by Trong in his second term as the party chief," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang at a daily press briefing.
Chinese leaders and senior CPC officials will meet Trong to discuss bilateral relations and issues of common concern, according to Lu.
Lu noted that China was ready to work with Vietnam to carry forward the two countries' traditional friendship, strengthen strategic communication and political mutual trust, and deepen practical cooperation and promote a sustained, sound and stable development of the bilateral relations.
