Over 6 million Chinese tourists will travel abroad during the upcoming Spring Festival, according to a tourism guidebook issued by the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) on Jan. 21. The unprecedentedly large number has turned the traditional Chinese holiday into a sort of golden week for the global travel industry.
Travel to countries and regions such as U.S., U.K., Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary and the Czech Republic is relatively popular, while Hong Kong and Macau remain perennial favorites, according to the administration.
Domestic tourism will see a boom as well, as an estimated 343 million travelers are expected to migrate within China during the holiday, up 13.6 percent from last year, the administration said. According to a survey conducted across 60 cities in China, up to 82 percent of respondents hope to travel in the first quarter of 2017, with half of the citizens opting to schedule that travel during the Spring Festival holiday.
