American adventure film "Passengers" topped the Chinese box office in the week ending Jan. 22, earning 117.5 million yuan (about 17.1 million U.S. dollars), according to the China Film News.
The film had reaped about 237.5 million yuan since Jan. 13, when it was released in theaters nationwide.
Domestic comedy "Some Like It Hot" landed in the second spot, with 87.6 million yuan.
The film was followed by "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," also an American production, with 59.8 million yuan. The action-adventure had earned 423.7 million yuan since its debut on Jan. 6.
"Arrival," an American sci-fi, grabbed fourth place in its opening weekend, raking in 50.4 million yuan.
Rounding out the top five was "Backkom Bear: Agent 008," a domestic animation, which grossed 48 million yuan in the week.
