U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he respects the right of all nations to chart their own paths and has no intention to represent the world.
"My job is not to represent the world. My job is to represent the United States of America," Trump said in an address to Congress, echoing his policies of "America first."
"We know that America is better off, when there is less conflict -- not more," he said, adding that "we want harmony and stability, not war and conflict."
The U.S. president also called on the international community to learn from the mistakes of the past and avoid "the war and destruction that have raged across our world."
"The only long-term solution for these humanitarian disasters is to create the conditions where displaced persons can safely return home and begin the long process of rebuilding," Trump said.
