The Kremlin said Thursday that no Russian agencies were involved in a massive hacking against Yahoo users in 2014.

"There can be absolutely no talk about any official involvement of Russian agencies, including the Federal Security Service (FSB), in any unlawful actions in cyber space," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

The denial came after the U.S. Justice Department announced charges Wednesday against four suspects, including two Russian FSB officers, in the 2014 Yahoo data breach.

The defendants used unauthorized access to Yahoo's systems to steal information from about at least 500 million Yahoo accounts and then used some of that to obtain unauthorized access to the contents of accounts at Yahoo, Google and other webmail providers, the U.S. Justice Department said.

Russia has not yet received any information about the U.S. indictment through official channels, Peskov was quoted by RIA Novosti news agency as saying.

"Russia is always interested in cooperation in the fields of fighting cyber crimes and ensuring cyber security. We believe it is one of the priorities in our time," Peskov said.
