Changchun city's sports bureau announced on Thursday that the capital city of China's Jilin province will hold an international marathon race on May 21.
"We set six events, including marathon, half marathon, 10km race, 5km race, home run competition and lovers run race," said Liu Haiyu, chief of Changchun sports bureau.
"The runners can register through the official website (www.changchunmarathon.com) from March 27 to April 27," he added.
Chinese Athletics Association (CAA) had held 328 marathon competitions in 2016 all over China. To avoid homogenization, the organizers of Changchun international marathon Zhimei sports Group intended to add some local elements to the race.
"The competitors can enjoy the privileges when they visit the places of interests in Changchun, and they can get some food during the race," said Yin Hao, vice manager of North company of Zhimei sports Group.
Shui Tao, deputy general secretary of the CAA, said that Changchun marathon might surpass the formers as a latecomer. As a CAA bronze label road race event in China, Changchun marathon aims to become a gold label event in 2018.
"Changchun is well-known for its auto manufacturing, cinematography and forestry in China, I wish all the runners would have a good race here in May." Shui said.
