The largest telecommunication service provider in China's Macao Special Administrative Region published its 2016 annual report and revealed that it will upgrade the mobile network speed up to 600 Mbps and continue the free Wi-Fi program to attract more tourists.
CTM chief executive officer Vandy Poon told the press that the company achieved a satisfactory financial performance last year, recording a revenue of 4.5 billion patacas (560 million U.S. dollars) for 2016; profit after tax was 1.08 billion patacas (135 million dollars), a drop of 6.4 percent compared to 2015.
The annual report said CTM has taken the lead in adopting new technology and will launch the third band and upgrade the VoLTE coding standard in this year. The download speed of CTM 4G+ will be raised from 300Mbps to 600Mbps. If the SAR government grant more spectrum resources to apply as soon as possible, the public users can even enjoy the connection speed of up to 1000Mbps.
CTM said it will further promote the development of Digital Macau, and build Macao into a smart world tourism and leisure center by continuing the free WiFi service.
