A residential apartment explosion that killed five and injured 25 people over the weekend in north China was allegedly caused by illegal storage of explosives, local police reported Monday.
The Municipal Public Security Bureau of Baotou in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region said on its Sina Weibo account that police in Tumd Right Banner have arrested the suspect and will continue their investigation.
Saturday's explosion occurred in one building, but the blast was so powerful that five out of the 14 buildings at Xiangyang residential community of Tumd Right Banner were affected. Eighty seven homes were damaged, police said.
