A French national was violently assaulted with a knife in Shanghai on Wednesday, the Consulate General of France in Shanghai said in a statement posted on its official website.
It is reported that the attacker escaped with help from his Chinese friend and was arrested later by police.
The French embassy in China said it has been in contact with Chinese authorities. It also called for French people in China to be vigilant and said the priority for the embassy is to secure the safety of French nationals.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released, and the circumstances of the incident remain unclear.
