A clerk who stole 2 million yuan ($286,000) from her employer to fund designer shopping sprees and flaunt her purchases on social media turned herself in on Friday.
Since 2013, the woman, identified only as "Xiaowen" in reports, managed to slowly siphon a fortune from the company in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province to pay for an array of perfumes, handbags and cosmetics.
The 26-year-old said she handed herself over to law enforcement after realizing she would never be able to pay back the sum, Qianjiang Evening News reported.
In their investigation, police found a mountain of luxury goods, many of which were never used. Among them were more than 1,000 lipsticks.
Xiaowen blames her addiction to shopping. "It was that feeling of satisfaction I'd get when deliveries came, I can't figure out why I am so into buying things," she told media.
The woman was known to make impulse purchases and then brag about them on mobile platform WeChat.
Xiaowen is currently in police custody.
