Firefighters toiled for nine hours overnight on Monday to pull a little boy out of a deep, narrow dry well in east China's Shandong Province. The fire personnel had to resort to using 21 excavators and four bulldozers as well as their conventional tools like ropes.
Their work was made extremely difficult by the narrowness of the well, which was 0.25 meters across and 10 meters deep, after the two year old got stuck toward the bottom of it.
While working to reach the boy, the firefighters blew oxygen into the narrow shaft and shouted down comforting encouragements.
After dismantling the walls of the well, the firefighters reached the boy, who was pulled out unscathed but badly shaken by the experience, in the early hours of Tuesday.
