Subway cars are more often a place where one loses one's appetite. But a group of foreigners riding Shanghai's Line 11 said 'Bon Appétit' as they enjoyed a fancy feast on a portable table.
The viral image posted Friday shows the party of four foreign men seated in front of a small but scrumptious spread. On their foldable table, the quartet enjoyed baguettes, cheese and white wine in fluted glasses, the photo shows.
Though eating is not allowed on the Shanghai Metro, the revelers will unlikely face punishment as the regulation is not legally binding, subway officials told eastday.com.
The image, however, triggered outcry on Sina Weibo, with many complaining the diners were given a free ride because they are foreign.
"I think the subway guards would have flipped the table if they were Chinese," wrote "Tellwhy."
