Despite achievements by Beijing in its mission to address air and water pollution -- more should be done, an inspection team from the central government said Wednesday.
The inspection team urged the local government to deal with prominent problems such as insufficient performance of duties, light punishment of irregularities and poor management of environmental protection.
Beijing has experienced serious air pollution in recent years.
To solve the problem, the municipal government has allocated 68.3 billion yuan (about 10 billion U.S. dollars) to environmental protection measures since 2013.
As of February this year, 28 people have been detained for irregularities related to environmental protection.
Besides Beijing, inspection teams were also dispatched to cities including Shanghai and Chongqing.
