Renowned Taiwanese film director Lee Hsing, 87, has called for more cultural exchanges between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, at the opening ceremony of the 9th Annual Cross-Strait Film Exhibition on April 14 at the Beijing Normal University.
In cooperation with Beijing College Student Film Festival, the screenings take place in Beijing, Baoding, Taipei and New Taipei city. Seven films from Taiwan will offer a feast for the eyes of college students on the Chinese mainland from April 13 to 18.
"I always hold great confidence about the future of Taiwanese films. The seven wonderful films that I bring here represent the latest trend of Taiwan movie market. If college students, as the most energetic group of human beings, could read something, tell something and think something about that, that would mean much to the filmmakers," the director said.
The seven films vary in subject matter, ranging from documentary, romance, family to comedy.
"The Chinese mainland has witnessed a leap in the growth of the movie market and box office records have been broken again and again," another director Zhu Yanping said. "We hope the exchanges will introduce more Taiwanese films to our potential filmmakers and investors from Chinese mainland."
