Seven people went missing Wednesday when a cargo ship with 12 crew members aboard sank in Black Sea waters, Russian local emergency services said.
"On April 19, 2017, the Heroes of Arsenal ship sank in the area of the Kerch Strait in the waters of the Black Sea," said the press service of the Krasnodar region's department of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.
The ship sent a distress call Wednesday morning, and a large-scale rescue operation involving 127 rescuers is underway. So far five people have been rescued and seven others are still missing.
The ship carrying grain was heading for Turkey from the southern Russian region of Rostov.
