In order to cultivate good driving habits and assure pedestrian safety in Shanghai, local traffic police will be installing more surveillance cameras at intersections across the city.
More than 50 surveillance cameras will be installed to identify drivers who do not yield for crossing pedestrians, a growing complaint among non-driving Shanghai residents.
Additionally, audio devices will be installed to record drivers caught excessively honking their horns, which is illegal.
Apart from surveillance, Shanghai traffic police will launch an upgraded official mobile app to provide more services to local residents.
The application, which already has 850,000 registered users, will add new functions, including a way for civilians to input license plate numbers of cars that are parked illegally.
