China's top legislature on Thursday ratified an agreement on border defense cooperation among member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The agreement was approved at the closing meeting of the bimonthly session of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee.
Reporting to legislators, Li Wei, vice minister of public security, said the treaty provided a legal basis for border defense cooperation among SCO member states.
The agreement, signed at the 15th SCO summit in the southwestern Russian city of Ufa in July 2015, aims to combat terrorism, separatism and extremism in border regions.
It also helps the fight against drug smuggling, arms trafficking and illegal immigration.
