Yuan Jiajun was appointed vice governor and acting governor of east China's Zhejiang Province Friday.
The decision was announced at a session of the standing committee of the provincial people's congress, which also accepted the resignation of governor Che Jun.
Yuan has worked in China's aerospace industry and was chief commander of the Shenzhou spacecraft system, according to the standing committee.
Yuan was born in 1962. He joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in November 1992.
Yuan had worked in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region from March 2012 before becoming a member of the standing committee of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, deputy governor and then deputy secretary of the committee in October 2016.
