Disney and Marvel's "Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2" rocketed to No.1 with a 145-million U.S. dollars debut weekend in North American, opening the summer movie season officially.

The international weekend of the Marvel's latest release took in a strong 123.8 million U.S. dollars for a global weekend of 268.8 million U.S. dollars. The sequel to the 2014 film opened internationally a week earlier. The film has now earned a whopping 427.6 million U.S. dollars at the global box office through Sunday, according to studio figures collected by comScore.

The American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team "Guardians of the Galaxy" is a crowd pleaser. According to comScore/Screen Engine's PostTrak, 19 percent of audience said they would see it again in a theater and 23 percent of audiences said they would buy the film when it's released on Blu-ray.

"The summer movie season officially kicked off with a Marvel movie as it has every year since 2007. This is the sixth best May opening ever and shows that moving the film from the first installment's August release date to the summer lead in spot was indeed a smart move," said comScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian.

Universal's "The Fate of the Furious" moved to second place with an estimated 8.5 million U.S. dollars in its fourth weekend. The eighth installment in "The Fast and the Furious" franchise has pulled in 207.1 million U.S. dollars to date in North America.

DreamWorks Animation and Fox's "The Boss Baby" landed in third place with an estimated 6.2 million U.S. dollars. It has brought in 156.7 million U.S. dollars in North America after 38 days in theaters.

Lionsgate's "How to be a Latin Lover" placed fourth with an estimated 5.25 million in its second weekend. Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" finished fifth with an estimated 4.94 million U.S. dollars in its eighth weekend.
