The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will send an official delegation to the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation to be held this weekend in Beijing, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday.[Special coverage]
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang confirmed the attendance of the DPRK at a daily press briefing. But he did not say who will head the delegation.
The Belt and Road Initiative is open and inclusive, said Geng, adding that China welcomes all countries that share common goals and interests to join the initiative.
The China-proposed initiative aims to build a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient Silk Road trading routes.
The Belt and Road forum will be held from May 14 to 15 in Beijing. At least 28 heads of state and government will attend the forum, the highest-profile international meeting on the Belt and Road Initiative.
