The Walt Disney Company on Wednesday announced that the Shanghai Disney Resort would soon welcome its 10 millionth visitor, following positive second fiscal quarter earnings.
"[Visitor numbers are] outpacing our most optimistic projections and the park's performance is exceeding our expectations," said Robert A. Iger, chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Company.
The company on Wednesday reported quarterly earnings for its second fiscal quarter, ending April 1, 2017, of 13.3 billion U.S. dollars. Net profits increased 11 percent year on year to 2.38 billion U.S. dollars.
Disney plans to add a new area -- Toy Story Land -- to the Shanghai resort in 2018, touted as "just the first of several planned expansions in Shanghai."
