A forest fire that broke out Wednesday in China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was completely extinguished as of noon on Sunday, said the firefighting headquarters.

Most of the firefighters started withdrawing from the scene on Sunday afternoon, while some 2,500 people and three aircraft stayed on site to clean up.

The fire broke out Wednesday in a forest in Chenbaerhu Banner in Hulunbuir City, spreading across some 8,400 hectares. More than 9,000 people were mobilized to extinguish the fire.

This spring, temperatures in Inner Mongolia have been higher than average ,increasing the risk of fires.
