China on Tuesday expressed the hope that relevant parties in Syria make use of peace talks in Astana and Geneva to contribute to the political solution to the issue.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a daily briefing that during the peace talks in Geneva, which concluded on May 19, China's special envoy to Syria Xie Xiaoyan contacted all related parties, including the Syrian government, representatives from Syria's opposition and the Russian and Turkish sides.
"We hope that relevant parties in Syria will seize the opportunities, make use of peace talks in Astana and Geneva, to push for the political settlement of the Syria issue," Hua said.
China will work with the international community to positively and constructively push for an early political solution to the issue.
Hua also appreciated the efforts of the UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.
