Shanghai SIPG advanced to the 2017 AFC Champions League quarterfinals for the second year in a row after winning the second leg of their Round of 16 clash against Jiangsu FC 3-2 on Wednesday for a 5-3 victory on aggregate.
Andre Villas-Boas' side came into the game at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center with a slender 2-1 lead from last week's first leg, and Elkeson gave them some extra breathing room in the 34th minute when he capitalised on a moment of indecision between Hong Jeong-ho and goalkeeper Zhang Sipeng to latch onto a Hulk through-ball and prod home from close range.
Two-time AFC Champions League winner Elkeson then played a key part in Shanghai's second goal nine minutes later, delaying a one-on-one for a fraction of a second before dinking the ball over the advancing Zhang and drawing an own goal from the unfortunate Yang Xiaotian, who was rushing back to cover.
Jiangsu made a spirited fightback in the second half, with Hong heading home in the 75th minute and Wu Xi equalising in the third minute of injury time, but Hulk struck back in the 94th minute to wrap up the win and confirm Shanghai's place in the last eight.
