Vietnam's 10 most outstanding table tennis players will undergo training in China before partaking in the upcoming 2017 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games with hopes of bagging gold, a local sports official told Xinhua on Wednesday.
"Our 10 athletes will receive training in the Chinese city of Nanning from July 20 to August 15, and will leave Hanoi on August 18 for Malaysia, targeting one gold, one silver and two bronze at the 2017 SEA Games," said Phan Anh Tuan, head of the table tennis division at the Vietnamese General Department of Sports and Physical Training.
In Nanning, in which training costs are reasonable, the Vietnamese table tennis team will hire Chinese experts to help the athletes improve their tactics and skills, fitness and psychological firmness, he said, adding that Vietnamese players will also have friendly matches with Chinese counterparts.
"At the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore, our table tennis players won one silver and five bronzes. This time, personally, I pin big hopes on Nguyen Anh Tu and Mai Hoang My Trang," said the sports official.
