Six people have been killed in central China's Hubei Province since last Friday in heavy rain, the local government reported Tuesday.
The downpour caused flooding and other geological disasters in at least eleven cities in the province. More than 1,200 residents were relocated while 415,200 people had reported damaged property as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, the provincial civil affairs authorities said.
More than 250 houses collapsed, about 41,000 hectares of farmland was flooded, causing direct economic losses estimated at 311 million yuan (46 million U.S. dollars).
Summer is the rainy season in Hubei. Flooding has wreaked havoc in the region in previous years.
Since last weekend, heavy rain has battered most parts of China's central, eastern and southern regions.
In southern province of Guangdong, rainfall increased after Typhoon Merbok made landfall Monday night.
