Greek Parliament Speaker Nikos Voutsis said on Tuesday that his country is working consistently for the promotion of strategic cooperation between the European Union and China for the benefits of the two sides.
Voutsis made the remarks when he met Han Zheng, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee.
"The Greek parliament contributes efficiently in the implementation of the agreements established between our two countries, agreements that over the past ten years have become more and more frequent and significant," Voutsis told Han.
The speaker said Greece is working consistently for the promotion of the strategic cooperation between the European Union and China for the benefits of the two sides.
Voutsis also referred to Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' recent visit to Beijing, where he took part in the Belt and Road Initiative Forum for International Cooperation and had the chance to highlight all the aspects -- financial, commercial, cultural, and educational -- of the Sino-Greek cooperation.
Han thanked the Greek parliament for its efforts to further enhance bilateral relations and expressed confidence that the two countries' cordial cooperation and friendly relations will further deepen.
Han led a Chinese delegation for a visit to Greece from Sunday to Tuesday at the invitation of the country's ruling Syriza party.
During the visit, Han also held talks with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Athens Mayor Yiorgos Kaminis, and oversaw the signing of a memorandum of understanding on friendly cooperation between Athens and Shanghai.
He attended New Oriental Chinese Music Scene concert dedicated to the 45th anniversary of Greece-China diplomatic relations and visited the Piraeus port project managed by China COSCO Shipping.
