South Korean President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump will try to seek a fundamental solution to the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue at their upcoming summit later this month, Seoul's foreign ministry said Wednesday.
President Moon was to leave for Washington on June 28 to hold a summit with President Trump for two days from June 29.
U.S. Undersecretary of State Thomas Shannon arrived in Seoul Tuesday evening and discussed earlier in the day with South Korean Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam about detailed agendas for the summit.
According to Seoul's foreign ministry, Shannon and Lim expressed anticipations that the meeting would become a meaningful opportunity to discuss joint strategies aimed to fundamentally resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.
They agreed on continued efforts to fundamentally resolve the issue by using both sanctions and pressure under close cooperation.
