New Zealand's foreign ministry named its new ambassador to China and new Consul-General in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
Clare Fearnley, currently New Zealand Ambassador to South Korea and former Consul-General in Shanghai, has been named the next ambassador to China.
"New Zealand's relationship with China is one of our most important. In its 45th year, it encompasses areas as diverse as economic, trade, climate change, defense, legal, cultural and educational cooperation," Foreign Minister Gerry Brownlee said in a statement.
"Our free trade agreement has been an incredible success, with trade between our two countries tripling since 2008," Brownlee said, adding that New Zealand's diplomatic presence in China has grown significantly in recent years.
Brownlee also announced Carl Worker as New Zealand's next Consul-General in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
