The BRICS Games could be a regular sports exchange program among BRICS nations, said Russian deputy sports minister Sergey Kosilov at the ongoing first-ever BRICS Games on Monday.

"There are willingness among BRICS members, the newly-launched BRICS Games in Guangzhou could be a model," said Kosilov during an exclusive interview with Xinhua, "If all the five members are willing to do so, we can make it a regular sports event in the future. Maybe the nation which takes over the rotating presidency could be the host."

"I hope we can strengthen the cooperation among the five nations through the BRICS Games, at the same time make the athletes enhance understandings and deepen friendship," Kosilov said.

Kosilov also spoke highly of sports in terms of playing an important role in BRICS members' cultural exchanges, as he considered it the combination of science and culture.

"Sports can bring us together and make us united, this is also why we are here now," the Russian official said.

Russia has sent a group of competitive athletes for the inaugural BRICS Games. Its U20 women's volleyball team has won three straight victories in as many days, including wins over host China and powerhouse Brazil, both of them are regarded as the potential title contenders for the upcoming U20 World Championships to be held in Mexico next month.
