China was saddened by the news of a fuel tanker fire in east Pakistan and expressed condolences to the victims, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Monday.

At least 143 people were killed and 156 others injured in an oil tanker fire that broke out in Bahawalpur district of Pakistan's eastern Punjab Province on Sunday morning.

Geng expressed condolences to the victims and sincere sympathy to their families at a daily press briefing.

He said Foreign Minister Wang Yi also expressed condolences to the Pakistan side during his visit to the south Asian country.
