Yang Chongyong, a former senior legislator in northern China's Hebei Province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office for actions including graft, it was announced Tuesday.
Yang took advantage of his post to seek benefits for others and accepted "a huge amount" in bribes, according to a statement from the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).
Yang, 61, had been vice head of the Hebei Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee since 2016. Prior to that, he had served as vice governor of Hebei for eight years.
Investigators allege that Yang used fake identity document for outbound trips without permission, concealed changes in his marital status, and confronted investigations, according to the CCDI.
Yang also borrowed vehicles and apartments from private entrepreneurs for a lengthy period of time, the statement said.
Yang, a senior official, has severely violated the Party's code of conduct and "polluted the political ecology of Hebei Province," it said.
The CCDI said the decision to expel Yang would be confirmed later at the plenary meeting of the CPC Central Committee.
Yang's illegal gains will be confiscated and his case will be handed over to prosecutors, it said.
The CCDI announced an investigation into Yang in April.
