More than 3,000 people have been relocated in Beijing after heavy rain since Wednesday night, local authorities said.

From 9 p.m. Wednesday to 5 p.m. Thursday, Beijing received average precipitation of 53.6 millimeters, according to the Beijing Meteorological Observatory.

A total of 3,453 people were relocated and 100 scenic zones shut down, according to the city's flood control and drought relief headquarters.

The headquarters has activated an emergency response, and 38 pumping stations are working to prevent waterlogging.

The observatory issued a warning for heavy rain in the afternoon, predicting that the weather will last through Thursday night.
