"Despicable Me 3," the animated sequel from Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment, topped the Chinese box office with an estimated 438 million yuan (64.4 million U.S. dollars) in the week ending July 9.
Paramount's "Transformers: The Last Knight" took second place, raking in 151 million yuan in the week. The fifth installment of the "Transformers" franchise has so far grossed a total of 1.5 billion yuan since its release on June 23.
Domestic thriller "The House That Never Dies II" landed in third place for the week, earning 140 million yuan.
Domestic science fiction movie "Reset" came in fourth place, generating 72 million yuan.
Rounding out the top five was domestic comedy "The One," which grossed 66 million yuan.
