Settlement of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue calls for coordination and cooperation as well as collective wisdom and concerted efforts, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Tuesday.
Geng made the remarks at a daily press briefing in response to reports saying that the United States and Japan are calling on China to take more responsibility and exert more influence on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to resolve the peninsula issue.
Geng said that the core of this issue is the conflicts between the DPRK and the United States and the nature of the issue is security.
Those who exaggerate and highlight China's responsibility either lack of a full and clear understanding of the issue or have ulterior motives, said Geng.
China is neither the focus of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue nor escalating tension, Geng said, adding China does not hold the keys to solving the issue.
According to Geng, China has been playing an important and constructive role in solving the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and China's contribution is obvious.
To ease tension and solve the issue, other parties should work for the same aim, said Geng.
How could the issue be solved, while China is carrying out UN Security Council resolutions and working for the denuclearization of the peninsula, some people are infringing and damaging its own legitimate rights and security interests, Geng asked.
Geng said all parties concerned should play their due roles and shoulder their due obligations, and work together with the Chinese side to bring the issue back to the right track of peaceful solution via dialogue and consultation.
