Officials from the Portuguese Treasury inspected the accounts of football "super-agent" Jorge Mendes, his company Gestifute have confirmed.
Mendes represents players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe, Ricardo Carvalho, Radamel Falcao and Fabio Coentrao, as well as Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho, all of whom have or have had problems with tax authorities in Spain.
Wednesday's search of the Gestifute offices came less than a fortnight after Mendes had to appear in court to answer questions over a suspected tax fraud of over five million euros by former Atletico Madrid striker, Falcao.
The court decided to continue its investigations and it is possible that Mendes will appear in court again on July 31st when Ronaldo has to answer charges related to accusations he defrauded 14.7 million euros of earnings through image rights through a series of "shell" companies set up in the Virgin Islands and Ireland.
Mendes has so far denied advising players on how to invest their earnings, insisting he limits his work to sorting out transfer deals.
"An inspection procedure is currently underway and it is being carried out in normal conditions," said a Gestifute spokesperson on Wednesday.
Wednesday also saw officers of Spain's Customs Tax authority carry out a search on the yacht where Cristiano Ronaldo is enjoying his holidays in the Balearic Islands.
