Beijing Aolong has signed Stephon Marbury on a one-year deal, the Chinese Basketball Association team announced on Wednesday.
Beijing Aolong said that they took the decision as a recognition of Marbury's contribution to the basketball cause in the Chinese capital.
"His vast experience will be valuable for a young team like Aolong," the team said.
Marbury, 40, helped the Beijing Ducks secure three CBA championship titles after joining the team in 2011 following a roller-coaster NBA career.
But the two sides were unable to agree on his future and the club informed Marbury in April it was terminating his contract.
"I'm staying home in Beijing," Marbury wrote on his Sina Weibo account following the Aolong announcement.
