American rock band Linkin Park on Friday canceled its North American tour after the death of its lead singer Chester Bennington.

"We are incredibly saddened to hear about the passing of Chester Bennington," said tour promoter Live Nation Entertainment in a statement.

"The Linkin Park One More Light North American Tour has been canceled and refunds are available at point of purchase. Our thoughts go out to all those affected," said the statement.

Bennington died at his home near Los Angeles on Thursday in what is being treated as a suspected suicide. The 41-year-old was open about his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction in his life.

Bennington was found hanging in the bedroom of his Palos Verdes Estates home and a half-empty bottle of alcohol was found in the room, Ed Winter, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner said Friday.

Linkin Park, formed in California in 1996, became a huge success in 2000 with the release of its debut studio album "Hybrid Theory," which features Bennington as the lead vocalist.

The band has sold over 70 million albums worldwide and was set to embark on an extensive North American tour this summer and in the fall.
