Chinese action film "Wolf Warrior 2" continued to dominate the Chinese film market in the week ending Aug. 27, grossing 259 million yuan (39.1 million U.S. dollars), China Film News reported Monday.
The film, which tells the story of a former Chinese Special Forces operative's adventures rescuing compatriots and locals in a war-torn region of Africa occupied by insurgents and mercenaries, has made 5.4 billion yuan since hitting Chinese screens on July 27.
"Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets," a French science fiction movie, came in second with 192 million yuan in sales in Chinese theaters in its debut week.
Hong Kong action movie "Paradox" landed in third place earning 161 million yuan.
Hollywood animated film "Cars 3" came in fourth, generating 71 million yuan in the first week of its release.
Rounding out the top five was American action film, "Baby Driver," which grossed 64 million yuan.
