Shanghai recently realized a national medical insurance network by opening an insurance clearing service at 449 designated local hospitals for nonlocal people who have accounts outside Shanghai, Jiefang Daily reported Tuesday.
Instead of going back to the places where they are insured, nonlocals can now claim their expenses from Shanghai hospitals with a second-generation social insurance card. The reimbursement standards of the place of issuing insurance will be applied.
Initiated by local human resources and social security departments, the hospitalization clearing system of Shanghai is part of a national system. A list of designated hospitals is available on the official social medical insurance website si.12333.gov.cn.
Shanghai is also working to facilitate local residents who have social medical insurance in other cities.
