The number of foreign students studying in Shanghai has increased by 13,000 to over 60,000 in the past five years, with 32 percent enrolled in a degree program, officials from the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission announced Tuesday.
Shanghai has a sister city relationship with 84 cities from 57 countries and regions with cooperation and exchange in the area of education, arts, sports and technology, with an effort made to strengthen educational services for the Belt and Road countries and regions.
Students, political elites, industrial professionals and academic innovative talents from these regions were sponsored to train in Shanghai. The city has also drawn a number of education organizations to relocate here, such as the Shanghai Teacher Education Center of UNESCO.
