The 2017 Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Center Index Report was released during the Pujiang Innovation Forum Saturday, thepaper.cn reported.
The report aimed to show the general progress of Shanghai's innovation. With a benchmark of 100 points in 2010, Shanghai scored 224.9 points in 2016, a 22.7 percent increase from the previous year, the highest growth on record.
The report showed that one-third of China's leading scientific achievements were produced in Shanghai. In 2016, local scientific research fellows published 39 pieces of research in world leading academic journals, including on Science, Nature and Cell.
Shanghai also swept over one-third of all leading technology awards in China in 2016, with 52 technological breakthroughs winning national awards. The city also developed one-third of all new medication. The success rate of this new medication is three times above the national level.
