"War for the Planet of the Apes" continued to dominate the Chinese film market in the week ending Sept. 24, earning 252 million yuan (38.1 million U.S. dollars), China Film News reported Tuesday.
The final film of the science fiction trilogy has raked in 653 million yuan since hitting Chinese screens on Sept. 15.
Lionsgate's "The Hitman's Bodyguard" came in second with 89.76 million yuan during its debut week at the box office.
Third place went to Spanish suspense film "Contratiempo," earning 73.04 million yuan last week. It has taken in 105 million yuan since its release on Sept. 15.
The Marvel fantasy film "Spider-Man: Homecoming" landed in fourth place, generating 66.83 million yuan last week. It has made 751 million yuan since its release on Sept. 8.
Rounding out the top five was domestic romance "Please Open Your Window" which grossed 12.63 million yuan last week.
