Four climbers from China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) have encountered an avalanche in Switzerland, which left one of them dead and another injured, the Immigration Department of the HKSAR government said Tuesday.
The avalanche occurred last week when the four people were climbing a mountain in Switzerland. One man was killed in the incident, another man suffered minor injuries, the department was quoted by local radio RTHK as saying.
The Immigration Department said it has immediately followed up the case through the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR and the Chinese embassy in Switzerland.
It has also offered assistance to the families of the victims.
The other two climbers have returned to Hong Kong.
