A sound and stable China-U.S. relationship not only serves the fundamental interests of both countries, but also meets global expectations, Chinese Consul General in Houston Li Qiangmin said Wednesday.
Delivering a speech at the reception celebrating the 68th anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China, Li said both China and the U.S. have closely coordinated on important bilateral, regional and global issues.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump have met twice this year, charting the course for the development of China-U.S. relations.
"President Trump will pay a state visit to China this year. We believe his visit will greatly promote bilateral relations between China and the U.S," Li said.
Regarding China's development, he said the country has witnessed several historic leaps in the last 68 years, from obtaining independence to becoming wealthy and strong, all under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.
"We've made remarkable achievements through 30 years of Reform and Opening-up. We've made even more impressive progress in the past 5 years," Li said, adding that "With the leadership of President Xi Jinping, by accurately embracing global trends and national development and firmly deepening comprehensive reform, we've accomplished a great deal."
Next month is the start of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. It comes at a time when China is making tremendous progress in reaching its ambitious goal of achieving an "all-round well-off society," said Li.
"The congress will put forward a strategic action plan for the future development of China and its foreign policy," he told the audience.
Nearly 500 people including U.S. and Chinese officials, scholars and business people attended the reception.
