Twelve people aboard a fishing vessel from the Chinese mainland have gone missing after their boat collided with a Hong Kong oil tanker near Japan, Kyodo News reported on Thursday.
The collision reportedly occurred in the high seas off Japan's western coast, some 400 kilometers north of Oki Islands. Search and rescue operations are underway with three patrol boats from Japan's Coast Guard at the scene, according to the news agency.

Five bodies have been found in the toppled Chinese fishing vessel after it collided with a tanker of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region early Thursday, according to the Chinese Consulate-General in Osaka.
Rescue work for the other seven missing crew members is still under way, said the consulate-general on Friday.
