A promotional event on international talents and innovation development planning was recently held at the faculty club of Stanford University in the United States.
The State-backed Tsinghua Holdings, the technology investment arm of China's Tsinghua University and the largest university-owned enterprise in the world, initiated the plan and gave it the name Trans-X Innovation Eco, or "TIE" for short.
As part of Tsinghua Holdings' latest development plan, TIE aims to bring advanced science and technology projects to the market and upgrade existing entrepreneurship incubation systems.
According to the company, TIE works to meet the technological innovation demands in industries and regional economies, as well as bridge the gap between international cooperation and people exchange through strong support and numerous development services.
TIE will also join forces with top domestic institutions and global technology elites, gathering wisdom, experience and abilities to advance the progression from technological to industrial innovation.
"The core asset of high-tech industry lies in the people," said Li Zhongxiang, vice-president of Tsinghua Holdings. Li disclosed that Tsinghua University has approximately 20,000 alumni abroad. There are more than 65,000 alumni from top Chinese universities like Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University and Zhejiang University continuing their studies or working in Harvard University, MIT, Yale University and Stanford University. This is quite a large number and will be of great benefit if we explore the great potential of such brilliant overseas alumni during the international cooperation in global mergers and acquisitions. It will also help greatly if we were to combine the strengths from the government, tech industry and academic intuitions. The alumni's experiences are expected to promote major technology research and commercialization as well as explore a way for China to lead the development of the tech industry, Li said.
According to Li, TIE mainly focuses on nine areas, including artificial intelligence, biological information, engineering, new materials, new chemical industry, new energy and environmental protection, intelligent manufacturing and robotics, networking and integrated circuit technology, financial, health and medical. It also focuses on big data and technologically advanced cities.
"The United States is one of the world's leading countries in scientific technology talent, much of which is accredited to the many talented tech industry individuals from China," said Dr Qi Yunqian, TIE affairs chief in North America.
"There are about 10,000 Tsinghua alumni in Silicon Valley, many of which are the backbone of famous and successful high-tech companies there. TIE will work to build a professional bridge serving all Chinese enterprises in addition to overseas scientific and technological personnel."
As a high-tech enterprise with innovative products and services, Tsinghua Holdings has various businesses spreading in more than 170 countries. It has established more than 200 science parks and incubators worldwide in addition to having successfully incubated over 10 high-tech unicorn companies.
