With QR code readers being installed at turnstiles in several Shanghai metro stations, subway passengers can pay their tickets via Alipay or China UnionPay simply by scanning the QR code. Maglev train stations at Pudong International Airport and Longyang Road will also accept QR payments, Knews reported Wednesday.
According to Shanghai Rail Traffic Fan Club site on Weibo, users must first download the app Metro Daduhui. Alipay told Knews that the QR code payment is still in its testing stage but is expected to formally launch by the end of this month.
Previously, Alipay and China UnionPay launched QR code payments in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, and other cities to allow residents and tourists a quicker and more convenient entry and exit process.
