Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday stressed Palestine's support for a Chinese proposal for peace in the Middle East.
The four-point proposal put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping for peace between Israel and the Palestinians "are very good points," Abbas told Chinese reporters in an interview at his office in Ramallah.
"We agreed to carry on with supporting it and take it forward because it is suitable for resolving the Palestinian question and the conflict in the Middle East," said Abbas.
Xi raised the proposal during the July 17-20 visit to China by Abbas. The proposal includes China's continued support for a two-state solution to the Palestine issue, for building an independent, fully sovereign Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and China's concrete measures to back Palestine's economic development.
Abbas praised China's consistent support for a political settlement of the Palestinian issue, saying "since the beginning, China, its people and the Communist Party of China have stood on the side of Palestine and its cause, something that we are so proud of."
"China as a great country showcases its position and power in the world as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council," he added.
